The Office of Continuity Planning (OCP) assists campus departments to develop their own continuity plans. OCP's services are provided without charge.
OCP's planning methodology is appropriate for all types of campus units –
- academic departments
- organized research units
- public service units
- libraries and museums
- administrative and other support units.

To create a continuity plan for your unit, we suggest you proceed as follows:
- Contact the Office of Continuity Planning. A staff member will discuss the process with you. In particular, he/she will explore with you the question of locus: would continuity planning be most effective at the level of your unit, or would it be more effective for your parent unit, or for your subordinate units?
- Schedule an orientation session on your premises. OCP staff will discuss with you who should attend the session — typically, several of your key staff will be needed. At the session, OCP staff will explain the campus-level planning that is already in place, and you will be introduced to the campus's web-based planning tool, the UC Ready Planning Tool.
- Create your plan. The UC Ready Planning Tool will make this surprisingly easy. UC Ready is an on-screen questionnaire. Group discussion will be needed to answer some of the questions; other questions may cause you to consult others in your unit who have particular expertise. Hardly any research will be needed. When you have answered the questions, the tool produces a finished, printable continuity plan.
- Do your plan's action items. A plan alone will not make you ready; your plan's action items are designed to do that. Do them as time and resources allow.
- Review your plan annually. OCP will design and conduct annual reviews at your request.
Your completed plan will remain in OCP's secure database and you can view it, print it, or send it as an attachment. You continue to control your plan's content; you may update your plan at any time using the same UC Ready Planning Tool.
The Office of Continuity Planning will remain available for further consulting, assistance, and plan-review at your request.
